In elk geval drie coupletten van 'Walk on the Wildside' gaan over transgenders, iconen van de New Yorkse drag-scene van de vroeg jaren zeventig: Holly Woodlawn, Candy Darling en Jackie Curtis. De andere twee coupletten gaan over twee homo's: Joe Dallessandro en Joe Campbell (de Sugar Plum Fairy). Dat is toch iets meer dan "een klein deel".

Ik vind het interessant dat een heroine verslaafde ons opmerkt. Je zou denken een verslaafde is versuft, maar Lou Reed leefde veel op straat en dan heb je een ander perspectief op de wereld. De normale mensen leven met hun zijkleppen op. Misschien moeten ze allemaal aan de heroine!? Nee, dat wens ik niemand...

Maar...ow jee. Iconen waar jij het over hebt. Ik was in de jaren 70 zo n 7 jaar en ik droomde van NYC en Las Vegas en dat ik daar als vrouw zou rondlopen. Ik moet iets van die iconen gezien hebben, maar ik weet daar niets meer van. Wel stond Toppop bol van de androgyne en gender bender.
Ik weet wel dat ik altijd naar grote mensen series keek zoals the Jordaches. Dat was niet verdacht, want dat werd op vrijdag uitgezonden, maar het kwam wel voor dat de leraar vroeg wat kijk jij naar programma's die veel te laat uitgezonden worden.

Er was een band die Mud hete en daar was een soort trans. Op school zeiden wij: die man wilt ook een meisje zijn... Ik heb Mud opgezocht bij Youtube, maar nu weet ik niet wat ik die muzikant moet noemen. Gewoon een vrouwelijke variant van de rest, maar trans is hij niet.
